Traer Ambulance History

The vehicles have had many different radio call signs over theyears such as 332, 333, Traer 1, Traer 2, and 86-27. Severalambulances have held our call sign. This is the gallery of ourvehicles over the years.

Oldsmobile (1972-1978)

1974 Cadillac (1974-1988) A true servant with 14 years as first due and transfer ambulance. Has a better riding ambulance ever been made?

1978 Ford Collins (1978-1985) We advanced to a type II for additional room.

1985 Ford Wheeled Coach (1985-1996) Our first type III. A lot of work went into designing a vehicle that we could work in.

1988 Ford Lifeline (1988-2001) The Cadillac was getting long in the tooth and needed replacing. We had a type III slant side built for us up in Sumner IA.

1972 Chevy Suburban (1996) "The BURB" While we had a vehicle in for remount and overhaul, a 1972 suburban was the backup rig.

1996 Ford Emerge-A-Star (1996-2006) The old Wheeled coach spent 6 months in St. Louis getting spruced up and returned to service. At the time, municipal budgets were frozen and we could only afford a remount.

2001 Ford Type III (2001) While the 1988 Lifeline was in the shop for overhaul, we had the loaner on the right to get us through.

2001 Ford Arrow (2001-present) Budgets were still tight but the box was in good shape so Arrow Manufacturing of Rock Rapids did the remount and overhaul. This photo is of the day we took delivery.

2006 Ford Lifeline (2006-present) In June of 2006 we took delivery on a 2006 Ford Lifleine. We went with a taller and longer box to meet the needs as our service is changing again.
